Beady - Border Terrier - 121 and Puppy Group training
We first started working with Beady when she was a young puppy. We've support them using 121 training before the dog was able to join group training, then Puppy group training, some additional 121s plus Improvers Group training. Additionally Anna has taken full advantage of our support via WhatsApp during the training sessions.

Oppy - Ridgeback - Remote Training
When the dog parents of our pup's littermate said we should contact Cotswold Hound Dog Training for help with our pup I admit I was sceptical. Dog training? Over a zoom call? Nope, I didn't believe our friends, no matter how glowing their recommendation. I couldn't have been more wrong.
Cotswold Hound Dog Training have given us back our sanity. Sue and Barnaby have given not just practical advice and ideas for us to use but they have also been a huge emotional support for us too. We were at the end of our tether with our bitey, unruly pup until we spoke to them. Yes, dog training on zoom does work. Sue and Barnaby are force free trainers and the games and tips they've given us have hugely improved our relationship with our pup and this has paid dividends when it came to making his training more effective.
Our zoom calls are always a pleasure. They explain everything in language that I (a total numpty when it comes to dog training) can understand. They have helped us unpick our behaviour problems and put them back together and now we feel we almost have the dog we want. Both Sue and Barnaby have their own approach to the things we discuss and both are able to adapt their suggestions to the way our dog works. Honestly we've had so many "lightbulb moments" during our calls it's been like Blackpool Illuminations (Yorkshire expression there!)
We are so grateful for their advice and support, their checking in with us between calls. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Over Zoom, they were amazing, I can't imagine how great they must be in the "in person"
Dexter - Border Terrier - 121 and Group Training
(A bit of context - Dexter is a very sociable dog, he was getting really excited by any dog he saw and would pull on his lead standing on two legs and literally scream at other dogs from a distance of about 75m)
Hi Barnaby just to give you an update on Dexter! I walked up to training today and we met a few dogs on the way. He only looked at them and didn’t bark or whine and carried on walking with me. We’ve also started letting him off the lead more in a secure field we have access to and feeling more confident with a bit of recall. It’s almost a year now since we got in contact with you for some help and we are so pleased with our progress. He’s still very cheeky and stubborn sometimes but he’s a much calmer happier dog and we love him! Thanks for being supportive and helping us on our journey hope you have a lovely Easter 🐣 Julie, Dexter & family 🤩
Simba - Working Cocker - Group Gundog training
Hi Barnaby
We have throughly enjoy and looked forward to coming over on a Saturday to do some training. Both Simba and I have learnt so much and enjoyed every second of it. We will definitely be continuing to practice. He did surprise me with the dummy today, he has come such a long way and I’m so very proud of him. When you do the improvers gundog training please count me in. Thank you for making it fun in such a relaxed atmosphere. It helped both of us.
Loki - Rottweiller - Group training
"I took him to a Rugby Match. He was AMAZING and made me so proud! He was calm as we walked past other dogs (admittedly calm dogs) just looking at them then carrying on walking. There was a young Vizsla that was whining and wagging as he walked past, but a quick 123 and he was back on track. He sat beside me throughout the match, didn't need treats was content with head scratches. And when couple of the lads over ran the try line a couple of feet away from him, he just stood up moved back a few feet and sat back down again.
The difference since we took him a week after getting him in October is unbelievable. He was naturally so much less anxious around the other dogs and I obviously now had a few things up my sleeve, that we'd been practicing, if he got distracted but only needed it once with the Vizsla and he wasn't really anxious then his body language was relaxed and his tail was up.
He even had a stroke from a young girl who said hello to him but initially didn't want to stroke him as she said she was scared of big dogs, but his smile soon won her over and she made a big fuss of him."
Lottie - Working Cocker - Group training
I just wanted to say thanks to you and also Sue for all your support over the last 8 months. Lottie has come such a long way and is a completely different dog from when we started with you. Although she is still her excitable, cheeky spaniel self, she is so much calmer, focused and settled, and you’ve given us the tools to know what to do to help her in overstimulating environments. We’ve both loved the sessions and have gained so much from them. Thank you!!! Hannah and Lottie
Ferris - Young Lab - Group Puppy training
Ferris and I have loved our beginners classes with Cotswold Hound, such a friendly welcoming atmosphere to classes, everything we learnt was geared to real life situations and taught in a fun way with games that were great to get the kids involved with training too.I loved that socialisation was built into each session, and I've come away confident with Ferris meeting and greeting other dogs and reading their body language.Barnaby is really approachable and gave me loads of advice on dealing with any issues in a positive way.Thank you Cotswold Hound, thanks to you me and Ferris are ready to take on the world together!
Duke - Working Golden - Improvers Group training
We are enjoying the improvers class so much and learning so many techniques that we just didn’t know we needed to know! After almost 17 years of owning dogs we hadn’t realised how much we needed a fresh approach to training until we found you! Today we took our 3 boys out and did some training exercises with Duke including the focus game which he did amazingly well at, and we were surprised at how quickly our other dogs worked out what was happening too. Our walk was amazing, enjoyable and calm and that is all down to you, your amazing training and great techniques. We can not wait to keep learning and helping our boys to live their best life!
Roman - Italian Greyhound - 121 Puppy Training
We found Barnaby at Cotswold Hound is simply amazing. Knowledgeable, professional, enthusiastic, thoughtful and always had a solution for every challenge we encountered.
We had home 1-2-1 puppy training for our Italian Greyhound, Roman. We had previously done group puppy training with another dog and so had a loose idea of what puppy training involved but with Barnaby it was a much more in-depth, personalised training with perfect sessions tailored to our breed of dog and his growing strong personality.
We would highly recommend Barnaby. Roman is now 8 months old, able to stay at home alone, walks on the lead wonderfully and has a great recall. He is a really confident little chap and we feel that is largely down to his great start and training.
Blue - Adolescent Lab - 121 and Group training
I can’t recommend Barnaby enough. He really helped us with Blue, our bouncy one year old Labrador during a stressful time during lockdown. Despite being experienced dog owners we were finding walks extremely stressful. Barnaby took the time to really understand the issues we were having regarding poor recall, jumping up and the occasional nipping of bottoms. He gave us simple but effective strategies that we started to see results from within a couple of days. During our sessions he gave us clear instructions verbally and via email so we had those to refer back to plus extra tips to try with Blue. Barnaby is very knowledgeable and clearly loves and understands dogs. He is also good with people and delivers his training with warmth and good humour.
Ruby - Dachshund - 121 and Puppy group training
I first got in contact with Barnaby when we got our miniature dachshund puppy Ruby.
We wanted some 1-1 advice on where to start with a puppy etc, and we were also interested in the 8 week puppy training classes too.
Barnaby was nothing but friendly, and so approachable and immediately made us feel at ease.
The puppy training classes are great! You come away with so much knowledge and of course have some homework to practise on what you had learnt in the session. Ruby has gained so much confidence being around other dogs and I now feel at ease taking her out and not worrying when we’re around other dogs, we also loved learning new tricks every week and practising at home, with our children helping too!
I would highly recommend Cotswold Hound to anyone in need of advice/expertise or training classes for their dogs of any age!
Stan the man - Norfolk Terrier - 121 Puppy Training
Barnaby has been amazing with our little boy Stanley and has taught us so much.We booked four 1-2-1 sessions and built up on puppy basics as well as problem areas (our lawn thanks you!).We (including Stanley!) always looked forward to our sessions and will continue to put the hard work in.We would recommend Cotswold Hound to anyone wanting to give their pups a great foundation and will be our first port of call for any future training needs!Thank you again!
Cleo - Beagle/Rottweiler Cross - 121 and Group training
Would highly recommend Barnaby at Cotswold Hound for all of your puppy/dog training needs. The sessions we had with him and our young pup gave her (and us!) a great foundation. Barnaby was positive, enthusiastic and approachable. All sessions were based on positive reinforcement and we learnt a range of techniques and games to help with our training.Barnaby always followed up with extensive details and was available for additional questions/support.We can’t wait to join the improvers course in the near future.
